Takeaway
In any city of the Western World you can eat the food of almost any country under the sun. Forget Roast Beef and Yorkshire pud, curries have taken over. The British national dish is Beef Madras. Thousands of restaurants offer the cuisine of India, Bangladesh, China, Thailand, Mexico, Japan... but are we getting the real thing, or are we being fed diluted or fantasy versions of original dishes? With this series you find out.
In each of 13 programmes, a chef from one of these restaurants in Britain travels to the place of origin of a dish, and finds out how people cook it there. Then he or she has to cook it in a restaurant, too, and we find out how good they are away from home...
It's a food and travel show. Because food is so fundamental to the way we live, we also discover a great deal about how people live in our destination countries. We don't visit “exclusive” places. In each show our travelling chef visits someone's home, and a restaurant in their town, to compare the food. The series is lively, good-looking, and provides a fascinating insight into lives in faraway parts of the world.
Takeaway is available for acquisition through Carlton International.
