Rooted 2

St Vincent
Twelve-year old choir-boy Jameil Robertson lives in Peterborough. On Rooted he travels to St Vincent to meet his father's family. On his trip he goes to the St Vincent independence day celebrations with a local boy Aljay, explores the places his father grew up, goes snorkelling for the first time and learns how to grow bananas. Jameil says of his trip that it makes him feel more St Vincentian, and very proud of his roots.

Brazil
12 year old Kondwani Moraes is half-Brazilian (father's side), half Angolan (mother's side) and lives in London. He goes to Brazil to celebrate Christmas with his grandfather, gets to learn about the lives of people who make a living collecting rubbish in Sao Paolo through his new friend Van Clare, and spends time with villagers in northern Brazil. He also celebrates New Year in the colonial city of Salvador for the first time.

Bolivia
Maria Alvarez is 9 years old and lives in Worthing, West Sussex. She flew to Bolivia and visited Oruro, where her mother’s aunt lives, and Cochabamba.

The scariest part of the trip was the journey to Oruro, when she nearly got stuck in the snow in the mountains. In Bolivia, Maria made a new friend called Lilly, who taught her to play basketball.

Dominican Republic
Jennifer Aviwon Ramirez is 13 years old, and she lives in Clapham, South London with her mum, dad and brother Franklin. She went to the Dominican Republic, where her mum comes from, where she visited her aunt and cousins, and learnt about the history of the island. The highlight of the trip was making friends at a summer camp for children. The worst part, she thought, was the insects.

Jamaica
Joab Coutain is 13 years old and comes from Leeds. His dad, Andrew, originally came from Grenada, so on his trip Joab visited Grenada and also Jamaica, to learn more about Rastafarianism. In Grenada he saw his grandmother for the first time for 10 years , and went to her 80th birthday party. In Jamaica, the highlights of his trip included surfing in the Caribbean, visiting the Cane River waterfalls, where Bob Marley used to wash his dreadlocks, and spending time with a Rastafarian family.
