Jordan
Nine-year old Dima Awwad travels to the country of her birth, Jordan, where she learns how to look after bees, make honey, plants an olive tree for peace and travels to the desert to learn how the Bedouin and their camels live. Finally she celebrates her birthday in style in the Dead Sea. She’s glad she learnt a lot more about Jordan on her trip, but she wouldn’t want to swap her life in England.

Mauritius
Eleven-year old Stasha Abhee lives in Purley, Surrey. On Rooted, she visits Mauritius, the tropical African island her family comes from. Stasha and her family are Hindu, and she visits the Sacred Lake, the biggest Hindu pilgrimage site outside India. She stay’s with an octopus fisherwoman’s family, goes to school for the day with a new friend Sabrina, and dresses up to take part in local Carnival.

Morocco
Rym Aloui is eight years old and lives in South London. She gets to visit Morocco, the country her parents come from, where she travels into the Atlas Mountains on mule-back. With a new friend, Khadeja, she learns some of the jobs Moroccan children have to do, including washing clothes in the river, cutting the barley crop and milking the cows. She’s discovers she wouldn’t like to live in a mountain village because the life is very hard.

Uganda
Jerome is nine and lives in London. His mother is from Uganda, a country he’s never visited before. On his trip, he meets relatives for the first time and goes to his grandmother’s 70th birthday party. He visits the chimpanzees at an animal sanctuary, and then stays on a farm where he learns how to catch a chicken for supper, although he also realises that he’s a real city boy.
