London-based rooftop productions was formed in 1997.
We produce popular, entertaining programmes that increase knowledge and awareness of the developing world, its peoples and current issues, for viewers in the UK.
Our series Rooted was nominated for a BAFTA Children’s Award and a Broadcast Award in 2005. The Sunday Times commented that "It says a lot about how topsy-tury today's television is that you learn more about non-Anglo Saxon cultures and non-Christian religions from this one series for children than you are likely to from a year of peak-time adult fare."
Our programmes explore the positive and negative sides of life in countries in the developing world, and allow the peoples of those countries to speak for themselves. This emphasis is increasingly important as there has been a 25% decline in the number of factual programmes filmed in the developing world and broadcast on British TV over the past 15 years, and of the programmes there are, most look at wildlife, travel or entertainment, or focus only on disasters.
